Day 3 – Second day of classes
First Class of the day was Superstar Education Program Chris Baran @coachchrisbaran, Chris Moody @chrismoodyhair.
The best two presenters I have ever seen in my life! They always have the whole class on the edge of their seats engaged and wanting more.
In this class segment they shared their hot tips for educating, whether it be in the salon or in the industry and how to help to get people to engage and enrol.
Chris and Chris shared some techniques with the class and I will share one below.
They used a hand as an example of how to keep yourself on track and valuable when educating:
*The thumb finger being – strong stand strong in the information you are delivering;
*The pointer finger – get to the point don’t go around the houses;
*The middle finger – tell it like it is;
*The ring finger- emotion! Connect with their emotion when learning to show you support them; and
*The Pinkie finger- associate and show vulnerability so people can relate and they feel that everyone is equal.
Hot tips:
*Set people up to receive focus on the result first then attendees will buy into the solution.
*You want to make people think, feel and remember, leaving a lasting impression
*The first 9 minutes of your class and the last 9 minutes of your class equates to 90% of what people will remember.
*Have a call to action not a whisper to suggest.
Since I know you will be wanting more from these guys I will give you the website to find out more! click on this link : http://www.trainersplaybook.com
The second class of the day was Tracey Cunningham @traceycunningham1. Tracey is a Redken Color Ambassador and Celebrity Colourist owner of Meche Salon in LA.
Tracey spoke about hair colour and how her approach has helped her to build a very successful client base along with her celebrity clientele. Tracey shared with the class that she too does a lot of grey coverage clients daily in her salon. In between looking after the likes of Emma Stone and JLO.
Tracey’s hot tips were:
*When you are doing a root blend always use the NB range in shades Eq to get coverage.
Always use a lighter colour on the hairline as naturally it is always lighter.
For quoting house call clients Tracey says “if you want to feel like a celebrity and have your hair coloured at home you need to pay like a celebrity”.
Next up was class 3 – American Salon @american_salon with Brett Vinovich, Kelly Donahue and Kelly Cardenas @therealkellycardenas .
Kelly Cardenas spoke about how he had started out in the hair industry and how he had been fortunate enough to end up at a dinner that just happened to be hosted by Brett and how from that day forward he had created a network with them. Kelly Cardenas spoke about American Salon and how they want to hear from stylists and see your work and continue to build great relationships supporting the amazing work everyone is producing. So reach out!
Kelly Cardenas also spoke about brand building and said that you have to believe in your brand so much that you are willing to do anything even if it means going down with it. Know your WHY? what is it about this business that made you want to get up and go to work everyday? Kelly gave an example that it might be so you can play all the games at the circus until you win? It doesn’t matter what the why is it only matters to you so you know what you are getting up every day and working hard for.
Look up! Be Social! Everyone is always on social media but the funny thing is no one is actually being social. Smile at someone, connect with someone. Creating connections is how you will continue to build your brand. Kelly was incredible to listen to, be sure to check him out @therealkellycardenas.
Class 4 – Mind Your Business with Linda Macchi @linda_877 and Cindy Duplantis @cindyduplantis
Linda and Cindy shared some hot tips about using social media and building your profile.
Cindy said that your Instagram profile section is your modern day business card so be sure to tell clients who you are and what you do or perhaps specialise in, be sure to add your address and any other relevant information. Linda and Cindy say as much as your doggo is cute he or she should only feature on stories as clients want to see what you can do with their hair. Stories are a great way of sharing a little of your personal life with clients if you like. Cindy also showed us how you can ask your client to share your Instagram name tag as a way to build up referrals.
Last but not least the highly anticipated class Hot Off The Press with Philip Barwick @philipbarwick, Lindsey Olson @lindsey.marie.olson and Jorge Joao @jorge_joao
This class was mind blowing! This crew took it to a whole other level! Everyone in the room was buzzing with creativity. Each of the educators shared a different way that they like to work whether it be for runway shows or photo shoots.
Philip spoke about how he used Millinery fabric to mould a headpiece using heat from a hair dryer, it was truly fascinating to see. Lindsey used toupe tape to secure her look as an easy on set alternative to using a bunch of pins. Jorge suggested making oversized U pins out of coat hanger or fence wire for a different effect! Very cool out of the box ideas!
Jorge also had some tonging hot tips. Do you ever feel like one side always looks better than the other when you curl? Take note whether working vertically or horizontal where the tail of the hair is if it is at the back on the right side you need to make sure it is at the back of your section on the left. On the top of the head alternate the tail for more volume and to blend in with the sides.
That’s a wrap! After a 13 year build up to attending Redken Symposium which I had heard so much about I can definitely say they delivered and beyond! Thank you to the Australian team Sheree Knobel , Karen Strano , Philip Barwick and everyone else who came along. I cannot wait for Redken Symposium 2021! See you all there!
