Hair Expo Wrap up
Sunday the biggest day at Hair Expo the biggest weekend in Hair Located at Sydney’s ICC Darling harbour.
The day began with meeting Jessica Riches from Chumba Concept Hair Salon the lucky winner of The Shear Adventure’s Expo Giveaway!

Jessica and i swung past the #hairexpoaustralia photo wall for a photo and then started to explore the Expo floor.
Then off to catch up with Clive and Kelly from Piloroo. They had the New DVD The Journey To My Destination created by Twice British Hairdresser of the year Sally Brooks and co producer Gabrielle Maciuca.
In the film Sally talks about the hair industry interviewing different Hair artists and salon owners.
Interviews about there experience in the hair industry and the opportunities and lifestyle that hairdressing has given them throughout there careers.
Sally wanted to take the chance to make a change in the industry and the way hairdressers are viewed, to inspire new generations of hairdressers into the industry world wide.
Next we went to see Travis Balcke @travisbalckehair on the Balmain stand styling hair and sharing his session styling tips. Travis travels the world styling hair for various fashion houses and Balmain Hair. Recently visiting Peru and now in Paris. Jessica and i also checked out the Balmain products,YS park combs and clips. Taking a few goodies home for our kits.
Off to the main stage to see Belinda Keeley @belinda_keeley, Collen Stanford and Elle painting hair for Original Mineral. Belinda and the team demonstrated different painting techniques that they use in the salon everyday to creating seamless blondes and vibrant colour melts.
Hanging out with the EdwardsAndCo Crew we headed with the masses to the Pyrmont Theatre to see Jen Atkin @jenatkinhair.
Jen interacted with the crowd answering questions about social media , hair and advice on growing in the industry.Jen also spoke about taking care when working behind the chair and looking after your bodies.
The theatre was packed. Jen shared her top tips for dressing hair and her go to choices with the Dyson Air Wrap to create different looks.
Back to the Expo floor at the main stage for the Kobi & Co Show with Kobi Bokshish,Stevie English, Sam James , Lyndal Salmon , Jake Putan and the inter shape young guns.
The Kobi Co crew showcased different cutting styles with Kobi presenting a cutting edge haircut and styles from his recent collections. Jake Putan demonstarted how to add texture to a haircut using clippers. Lyndal Salmon Created two looks using colour and ribbons to enhance her hair creations. Sam James creating a master piece of beautiful hair.
Last but not least for the day was Meeting the Industry Disruptors: Hosted by the Australian Hairdressing council.
Sandy Chong head of the Australian Hairdressing council introduced the panel of four.
Denis Langford was the MC for the session. The panel consisted of Adam Caccia Canberra Axis Hairdressing salon owner/hairstylist, You Tuber with over 112,000 viewers and Educator. Tom White Melbourne Rubi Hair salon owner, Lil Off The Top Educator and Truth speaker. Natalie Anne Sydney salon owner , Digital influencer and Bridal specialist and Mia De vries Wollongong The Fox & The Hair salon owner/Hairstylist , CEO of The Secret Fox Education.
The Panel spoke about earning the right and how they tried something different and it worked! The industry is changing at a rapid pace and we need to evolve with it and adapt new technologies.
Adam @adamciaccia said when he first started his You Tube channel it had only been created with the mindset that his staff members could go on and watch it as education. He soon released there was a broader market watching his videos and began to create more videos and more content bringing more viewers. Adam recently received an award from You Tube for 100,000
Tom @tomwhite_hairspoke about how the youth of the hair industry needs to be supported and nurtured. Rather than saying that it’s a generational thing and firing people look at how you can work with the young minds to create an environment that is tailored to them and enables them to be creative.
Mia @thefoxandthehair spoke about growing her salon and online Education platform with muliptle artists and subscribers it has now given her and the salon team the chance to be closed on Saturday’s.
Mia has built a great following and audience through Social media. Mia also spoke about creating a salon space that is Insta worthy e.g. a photo wall , a beautiful bathroom with wallpaper.
Natalie @natalieannehair awarded AHFA Digital Influencer Of The Year 2018. Natalie shared her story of starting her business in a garage at home creating a digital following and then opening her Salon Natalie Anne Hair in the suburb of Croydon, Sydney . Natalie said social media is what brings the clients in with little to no foot traffic in the area.Now regularly using Instagrams IGTV Natalie said that she has seen a massive increase in engagement using this feature and wanted to offer more in depth videos and a chance to speak on her videos allowing her to engage more with her audience.
