Vidal’s discipline inspired me to explore how I could learn more in my career. I began to research where the Vidal Sassoon Academies were located and what courses were available. At this stage, I was fully certified as a hairdressing professional. I chose the Vidal Sassoon ABC cutting course anyway, my reasoning for this decision, as many may query why I would not just go straight ahead and attend the creative cut, was that I believed that by starting with the classics it was a great introduction to the Vidal Sassoon philosophy, from this I would then understand the foundations and the language of the Vidal Sassoon way.
Brook street academy London was where I started and it was an incredible experience from the moment of booking in on the first day at the Academy everything was well organised, it easy to enrol and navigate and was an all-around friendly and welcoming place.
Attending alongside a fellow colleague, the course ran for 5 days starting around 10am each day until 5pm in the evening. Each morning began with a theory component, explaining ABC followed by a live demonstration facilitated by two educators where questions were encourage and students were able to get up close and see the detail of each haircut.
In the afternoon, sessions we were spoilt with live models everyday!! I believe this makes a big difference when working with hair as we all know a dolly head never quite behaves the same as real hair. The models were all long standing clients of the academy who had very positive comments on the academy and the educators. Throughout each day the educators monitored the texture and length of hair you were working on to ensure you had a mix of everything on completion of the course, as well as having incorporated ABC into the haircuts created.
I found 5 days a great amount of time to allow for each day to be absorbed and stored in my hair “tool kit”. Vidal Sassoon is an academy that I would highly recommend for any hairdresser in the industry. This course introduced me to many new concepts and I was excited to take them back into the salon to share. I also made some fantastic new friends and ideas from those I had spent the week with.
