As a Haircolour Artist I have been privileged to work alongside amazing talent for the past 15 years as an Educator for leading haircare companies gaining invaluable knowledge and mentors. 2016 has been my most exciting year to date, by taking an artistic risk that is already paying off. I launched Kristina Russell Education and stepped away from the safety zone of a large multi-national company. I had the honour of using all my skills developed over the last 2 decades of hairdressing, and am delivering relevant education to hairdressers.
My ‘pure’ message shares behind-the-chair reality as well as techniques, plus practical workshops on real-life models. All of my Creative Colour Chords workshops are small intimate groups which ensures personal coaching, and are open to students using any colour range that is curious to discover creative concepts in their beloved craft of haircolour.

For the first time together and independently of any colour brand I have grouped together with some of our industries top Colour Specialists. We held live demo seminars earlier this year in Sydney and Melbourne Australia to sell-out audiences and by popular demand we will return to these cities for encore performances with new techniques. Plus we have added 5 more dates for the 2017 tour. Some hairdressers warned us that collaborations have been tried before and will not work, and that was just the fuel we desired to shine bright and give the audiences something they have never experienced before. Colour Queens is a true collaboration of passionate hair colourists teaching 8 techniques on real clients in real time with no pre-done work. We use the brands that we love and encourage experiential active learning from our attendee’s.

Backstage at ‘Colour Queens’ I had the pleasure of seeing other Haircolour guru’s in action. Belinda Keeley has taught me why I should try silicon brushes for on precision onscalp bleaching, Monique McMahon has changed my toning repertoire, and Mia de Vries has opened my eyes to instagram bsuccess. Keen to know more and to learn why I love to colour curly hair? Or would you love to understand customised approach to haircolour for every client that walks through your door?
Grant Norton hosts the full day of colour demo’s with a sense of humour and international finesse whilst allowing plenty of Q+A from the audience. Tickets are limited and selling fast.

2017 is the year of careful experimentation for me along with the freedom and support of exploring new collaborations. Kristina Russell Education workshops are brand neutral and use the best available in the location that I am teaching from. Each class is guided by the students expectations whilst delivering learning outcomes advertised on my website and social channels. My most loved solo workshops are ‘Creative Colour Chords’. My passion for colour reflects in the enormous time spent in research + development to present never-before-seen artistic genres alongside my live haircolour demos.

Attendees at my May Chords workshops were encouraged to create their own techniques in a playful workshop with live models. Each workshop included a guest (non-industry) speaker and live demo from their artistic genre, sharing colourful inspiration. I shared my love for art history with a discussion on the Australian art period  ‘Sydney Moderns’. This period in art explored the correlation between musical chords and repetition in rhythm, which are themes I am exploring as an alternative set of colour principles suitable for teaching hairdressers of all levels. I did a creative live demo in the morning sharing tips on creative approaches and how to paint shadows + dimension into hair. Afternoons are wildly frenetic with every attendee working on their own model in a supervised learning environment. So much fun and personal growth!

My Sydney Creative Colour Chords special guest speaker was prolific female street artist VEXTA. She showed hairdressers how to make stencils and use aerosols on the patio of the designer + award-winning salon Edwards and Co Alexandria. This was an awesome opportunity to meet an inspirational female artist and to network with some Aussie creatives.

My Melbourne Creative Colour Chords special guest speaker was Illustrator and street Artist Luke Davies. Dubbed the ‘Pencil Jedi’ for his wizardry with old school pencil and paper, he has the ability to draw photo realistic imagery on paper or iPad. He trained as a hairdresser and has worked backstage at many fashion events. I love carving up next level concepts with Luke, such as the time we vandalised a lot of wigs and twisted them onto a model for a collab fashion vid. Chumba Hair kindly hosted me for the Melbourne event where Luke shared the art of airbrushing.
