Hola! Shear Adventures friends ….
Yesterday 12th of November i got to attend the very first Cutting KINGS and after the great success we will hopefully be seeing more of them in 2019!
If you didn’t catch my stories don’t panic i saved them in the highlights section on Shear Adventures Blog Instagram under Education.
Held at The Masters Institute in Melbourne the room was buzzing with chatter and anticipation of what they had in store for us some attendees were Melbourne locals and others had flown in from various different states in Australia.
Hosted by Belinda Keeley owner of Chumba Concept Salons and also a Colour Queen!
Belinda was joined by Cutting KINGS Grant Norton , Lyndal Salmon , William Patterson and Tom White. A big thank you to Belinda for bringing such a talented group together.
The day showcased 6 haircuts from 10am start to 4pm finish with no prep work having been done before and some of the models having only just met the stylists. This kept the styles and direction of the haircuts organic and seen them develop as the shapes were created and the hair took form.
Throughout the day there were also competitions where attendees had the opportunity to win prizes including vouchers to attend further education which is a great investment on the educators part. Tom White also offered up free hug vouchers and Grant Norton was giving away GNE combs like Oprah, Alongside of pairs of SCISSORS. Amazing!
I have attended a lot of education seminars worldwide as most of you know. I was truly blown away and in ore of what the KINGS offered up .
Lyndal Salmon Biba Academy Educator and nurturer of the youth of the hair industry had so many great tips to share and articulated her techniques in a way that was very well received.
Lyndal’s Hot tip: she likes to cut hair with an even dampness so she can feel the hair and see the shape as she works through the haircut.
Lyndal’s Hot tip: when finding models for haircuts you need to find the face and create a look for that face rather than getting caught up in what you want to do.
William Patterson Scottish Hairdresser with a Sassoon background has recently moved to Australia We are so lucky to have him here after he travelled the world educating he realised Australia was the best place for him. William is now building his profile here as both a hairstylist and an educator.
William’s Hot Tips : You Graduate the hair inside the fingers and you Layer the hair outside the fingers.
Tom White Owner of Rubi Hair Windsor Melbourne and Lil’Off The Top educator served up two amazing haircuts along with a realness about hair and his approach to hair cutting.
Tom’s Hot tip: When cutting curly hair if you section a straight line you are going to create a straight line in the haircut , however if you section with a zig zag your going to create a softer edge to the haircut.
Grant Norton of Grant Norton Education and owner of Chester’s Wife Rose Salons Melbourne.
Grant also launched his own scissor line at Cutting Kings stay tuned for more information on that, but i will say he has an amazing starter pack for hairdresser’s who are in need of a quality pair of scissors for their kits.
Grant had many hot tips when cutting hair and also cutting in fringes and the sectioning patterns he likes to work with.Grant invited Sven Kovac a friend and photographer who he has travelled the world with to join in and show how he works behind the camera and what it’s like to work with hair that is being shot. This was definitely an added bonus.
I can not wait to see what 2019 Cutting KINGS will have in store for us but stay tuned for future dates! Who knows maybe we might even see the Cutting KINGS and QUEENS have a royal Hair Collab! Did i mention that they also had killer Goodie bags and the Food!
I want to leave you with this… A message from today was that there is a place for every individual in this industry and that surrounding yourself with like minded people will help you to explore your creativity and push your career to places you might never have imagined.
Happy Cutting my friends!
